Music for Opening Sequence
We have created our music on the program 'garage band' and as we are not allowed to use copyright, we have made it from scratch on this program. The music piece is called 'midnite dialog long' and the genre is jazz. We thought this would fit well with our setting of the 1920's restaurant/bar. We are going to play this music throughout the scene when the man and woman are in the restaurant/bar so the audience will hear the diegetic music and it will set the mood. They will be able to imagine the setting is real with the characters in the restaurant/bar with this music playing in the background. It will also give them connotations that there is a band playing somewhere in there or a man on a saxophone. We are hoping to make this part very romantic. We still have more music to make for other bits of our film such as the beginning for when they are getting ready. We are looking for suspense music at this part for setting the equilibrium. Finally, we have decided to have our music with a 1920's theme, therefore this will consist of jazz and blues music. We are aiming to use a lot of this throughout the opening sequence as we want the sequence full of tension so we don't want any talking, we just want it silent. Therefore, there will be no dialogue or voiceovers so we don't need to write a script.

Roles and Actors
Man - Luke Smith
Woman - Joanna Embley
Both characters have the same role in the opening sequence by needing to kill each other and they also are set out in their rooms. So throughout the opening sequence they are always doing the same thing, however because they are different sexes they have their different mannerisms.
We won't have any other characters in our opening sequence, however, when we are filming in the restaurant/bar we will have other people around to add to the atmosphere of the setting.

Well doen girls. You are making good progress. I need to see a detailed storyboard as part of the planning and all planning should be complete by the end of this week. Please ensure you book cameras to film. You shuld ideally be aiming to film this weekend and certainly next week inorder to allow yourself time to edit during lessons next week. See me regarding any problems.

Shots
- Shot reverse shot
- Match on action shot
- Extreme close ups
- Close ups
- Medium close ups
- Medium shots
Throughout the duration time of filming our opening sequence, more shots will most likely come along. Because when we are fillming a certain scene we will probably think of the right shot to go with it. They might change or more shot ideas will be created.
Filming Schedule
For our filming times we have decided to set doing our filming mostly for weekends. This way we think it will be better for us as we don't want any of our opening sequence filmed in college as it wouldn't fit to our plan of what we are want to do with our opening sequence. Therefore doing our filming outside of college would make our setting look better and more realistic. We also thought that by doing our filming this way then we would benefit from the fact of getting more done in full days, instead of just for an hour in a free period at college, doing some then having to stop and forgetting what we have to finish. However, if we are desperate to get some done then we will have to do this although we can also rent cameras out for weekday nights. Finally, as we want to do well in this we have made a plan to stay behind on a thursday after college so we get everything done thats needs doing and so we don't fall behind.

All about the opening sequence
Our sequence is going to be about a man and woman who go out on a date, however they both don't know that they have secrets that they are hiding from each other. These secrets are that they are both on that date that has been set up by their bosses in their jobs and both characters are in it to kill each other as their occupation is spy's. From this, we can play about with our opening sequence and make it very suspense for the audience on what is going to happen. With this idea, we thought that we would get a successful narrative from it and be able to create a good equilibrium, disruption and re-equilibrium. At the beginning we are going to set it all up with them getting ready at their houses for the date, then going for the date. However, throughout this time the audience will see sneaky things that they are up to such as for the woman, slipping her props into her suspenders such as gun, poison and secret spy things. Then exactly the same for the man, but he will just be putting these things into his suit pocket. From this, you can clearly see that the characters will be dressed up and look important but both very attractive and sexy in their outfits. We want the man to be in a black suit and the woman in a elegant dress but sexy underwear underneath. We hoping with our plan of our opening sequence we will get a good variation of shots such as close ups, medium close ups, medium shots, shot reverse shot and match on action shots.
Equipment and Technologies To Be Used
The equipment we will use are a video camera with a tape. Tripod for the camera to be placed on and the Apple macs (iMovie) to upload our footage on to.

Panic Room, The Pink Panther and Spiderman 2 opening titles
The titles in this film opening cuts at every name that comes up, with a different image of new york in the background. the titles are in a font that looks 3D. The letters look like they are in front of the images. After every straight cut the camera either pans or zooms in slowly.
In this opening the titles fade out from one to the next and some are cut onto a black screen and joined by the animation of pink panther. The font of the titles are a standard font without any special effects.
The titles to this opening fade in then change with a special effect in to the next name. the backgound is all edited and link in with the titles effect.
Institution to produce our film
For our opening sequence we have chosen ideas of a 1920's theme so we can have it in black and white. We are hoping from this that it will look as though it is going to be a high budget hollywood film. Therefore we are looking for a film company such as 'Paramount' to show this. This would reflect on the audience, knowing it is going to be a good film. Paramount are one of the most popular film companys around and have been named on over thousands of films, ones such as Titanic with Leonardo De Caprio and Kate Winslet which has been one of the most famous films of all time and this also has a great romance genre in it which we want in our opening sequence. However, to link with our hybrid genre of both action and romance, we would want a film producer who likes to create films with genres like these. Lucas Foster is a brilliant producer who has produced fantastic and very popular films such as Mr and Mrs Smith, which is exactly the type of film we are aiming for and used for our research to reflect on our ideas. Lucas Foster, produces films with action and romance in them and still looks to carry on doing so, therefore we would want him to do ours if he is experianced in doing these types of films.

Analysis
We learnt from the questionnaire that a 1920's film in the 21st century would not be popular for the nine students we asked, therefore the ideal target audience would be aimed at 18 plus. The students thought that the hybrid we chose contrast well as most action/romance movies are ranked high in the top all time films. The majority of the people who took the questionnaire chose romance as their favorite genre of film, therefore the genre of romance will fit well with the target audience we are aiming it at. 5/5 of the females we asked what the was, was romance, this showed that our opening sequence would be popular to females. But one male chose action which encourages us to stay with the idea of action/romance because the action will keep the males interested and the romance will keep the females interested. The film will be aimed at all races and nothing in the opening will be against racial views. As the questionnaire we made were all asked by students, it gave us an idea of what the age of the target audience will be, 18 plus as signs of sexual scenes and acts of violence will be shown in the film. The socio-economic scale that most people would be in is high/middle class as we want the film to look hollywood style, like the film has had a high budget spent on it. The main catagories in phsychographic profiling that we want to veiw our film are mainstreamers, aspirers and suceeders. These are rated as the ones who can buy a high budget film.

In this list of the top 20 films of all time the majority of the films are full of the action genre which all have crime involved in them, the films such as Goodfellas, The Godfather, Pulp Fiction. However, because we have chosen to create a hybrid for our opening sequence on romance/action we are looking for a film throughout this top 20 on this. We know some such as Mr and Mrs Smith and Knight and Day which we have looked at most to take our idea for our opening sequence although these aren't in the top 20. But there is plenty of the films that show a lot of romance and action even if they are individual and in separate films on their own. But therefore this does show how popular each of these two genres are so we hope that our idea of putting both of them together for a hybrid which make the audience enjoy it. What makes us think this even more is there are a few in this top 20 films of all time that have a little bit of each in, and if they are in this top 20 then it just shows that they are good and successful. The films that involve this are The dark knight, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Casablanca. Casablanca is the film out of all these hybrid ones that reflects the most on what we want our opening sequence to be like. The film Casablanca was created in 1942 but looks as though it is set in 1920 which is the idea we were going for, also with its editing of black and white and on the film cover sepia. We want to do ours in black and white for some parts to show off what day and age it is in especially with the characters, because the black and white will have an effect on what they are dressed in to create a better showing of 1920's.

Genre Conventions
This trailer of the film knight and day shows the hybrid romance/action genre that we want to create in our opening sequence. This trailer shows the brief main things that the audience need to know about the genre in this film and what is going on. It sets up the equilibrium that brings the narrative into the film. The equilibrium is the part at the beginning where the film gets going when the characters are brought into the film and introduced to the audience. Then the disruption comes in in the middle when both characters get involved in some crime and the storyline becomes intense, however at the end we get our re-equilibrium which is when both of the characters end up falling for each other which we wouldn't expect as the audience because all the way through this film they seem to hate each other, however we do see them both seeing each other in a different light. There is a man and woman who are played by Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. They just happen to cross the wrong paths and this man is a some sort of spy who works on his own, therefore props are used such as guns. The opening sequence is set in an airport and then onto an aeroplane, the woman gets on the flight without knowing that it has been cancelled because it is going to be taken hostage by this man. The idea is that he takes advantage of her to use in his crime and she is terrified, and wonders what the hell is going on. All she wants to do is go to her sisters wedding. This man is a very confident and clever character but the woman is a nervous woman and the typical stereotype of a 'blonde bimbo'. She truly believes that the man is going to hurt her but he is protecting her as she became involved by being on that flight. It isn't set in one main place because in the film they are traveling all over the place because of his job but at all times it is normal lighting, either dark or light because they are continuously in normal day life settings which is either being inside or outside and in the day time or night time. The shots used throughout this film are the majority of the time full of action as it is always very action filled. There is shot reverse shot used between these two a lot because as Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise are the main characters and on the screen the most throughout the film their is always lots of interaction between the both of them.

Genre Conventions
The two main characters are shown at the beggining as a happy married couple. This reflects the behavour throughout the film as they are enemies and want to kill each other. The equilibrium is in the order; they start talking about how fantastic there love life is, disruption happens throught mosrt of the film then the couple make up and its a happy ending. The happy ending is expected from the audience but the but the disruption creates the tension for the audience and makes the plot more interesting. The typical setting of an action film is in this opening ; house and casino. The fight sequences are not expected from the audience as the equilibrium suggests that the genre is romantic, not a hybrid including action. The intorduction of the characters show one side to the protagonists as they are spies for two different agencies and are a married couple. The contrast between the protagonists creates the tention and tention for the audience. The first enigma created in the opening is; 'are the couple in love or do they hate each other?' This is the main enigma as the characters throughout the film show love and hate for each other. Another would be 'would they actually kill each other even though they are married?' The main ideology for this sequence would be make the people you love closer than your job. This indicates the end part of the equilibruim. Straight away the first shot is a medium shot of the two protagonists which indicvates they are in a meeting, also because of the formal costume and location. The meduim shot becomes a medium long shot after a straight cut. The camera is slighhtly hand held to show that the characters are speaking directly to the opposite person or the audience, this creates intimidation for the audience. The titles are shown seperately to the characters on a black screen, where the voices stop talking but the background noises are still playing.
