Genre Conventions

This trailer of the film knight and day shows the hybrid romance/action genre that we want to create in our opening sequence. This trailer shows the brief main things that the audience need to know about the genre in this film and what is going on. It sets up the equilibrium that brings the narrative into the film. The equilibrium is the part at the beginning where the film gets going when the characters are brought into the film and introduced to the audience. Then the disruption comes in in the middle when both characters get involved in some crime and the storyline becomes intense, however at the end we get our re-equilibrium which is when both of the characters end up falling for each other which we wouldn't expect as the audience because all the way through this film they seem to hate each other, however we do see them both seeing each other in a different light. There is a man and woman who are played by Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. They just happen to cross the wrong paths and this man is a some sort of spy who works on his own, therefore props are used such as guns. The opening sequence is set in an airport and then onto an aeroplane, the woman gets on the flight without knowing that it has been cancelled because it is going to be taken hostage by this man. The idea is that he takes advantage of her to use in his crime and she is terrified, and wonders what the hell is going on. All she wants to do is go to her sisters wedding. This man is a very confident and clever character but the woman is a nervous woman and the typical stereotype of a 'blonde bimbo'. She truly believes that the man is going to hurt her but he is protecting her as she became involved by being on that flight. It isn't set in one main place because in the film they are traveling all over the place because of his job but at all times it is normal lighting, either dark or light because they are continuously in normal day life settings which is either being inside or outside and in the day time or night time. The shots used throughout this film are the majority of the time full of action as it is always very action filled. There is shot reverse shot used between these two a lot because as Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise are the main characters and on the screen the most throughout the film their is always lots of interaction between the both of them.
